Starbucks, Costa, Caffe Nero and the like!

on

So, you may be wondering why we haven’t got any reviews on Starbucks, Costa and Caffe Nero. The answer is that we wanted Rate my Bistro to be about cafes that you may not have stumbled across before.

To tell you the truth, I think that once you’ve been to one or two of the main chain coffee shops, they are pretty much all the same. Saying that though, one of my favourite drinks is hot soy milk. I have found that Starbucks do this drink well. Okay, it may seem like a simple enough drink to ask for, but it has been given to me a number of times with a shot of coffee.

I would also say that Starbucks do a great hot chocolate. A tip is that if you feel like a little more indulgence, then ask them to put a few extra pumps of hot chocolate in your drink. That is a real treat.

I recently tried the Vivanno(orange mango and banana) nourishing blend drink. It is just a smoothie made with banana, fruit juice and milk. It wasn’t anything special and I think that you can get better smoothies at other cafes.

As for cakes, muffins and pastries, Caffe Nero excel on this area. They always seem fresh and they taste good too. If you fancy a cold drink, then the iced chai latte is recommended from Caffe Nero. I have found that the chai latte from Starbucks was too sweet.

@Olivia – Unfortunately Cafe Nero have withdrawn their “Hot Chocolate Milano” which was so thick you needed a spoon to “eat” it!

Tried the new Dark Berry Mocha Frappuccino that Starbucks is offering at the moment.

Really enjoyed this drink and found that it tastes better when it is made with less syrup. They can also serve it with the Mocha Light base. It’s a great summer drink which has chocolate chips in it too!

None of Starbucks Frappuccinos can be made with soy milk.

Made a slight mistake…it’s actually called chocolate cookie latte, not chocolate chip!

It’s that time of year where the coffee shops launch their wintery flavoured drinks!

Costa does a chocolate chip latte and a maple syrup latte. I had a steamed soy milk with the chocolate chip syrup. It was very tasty and even more satisfying than a hot chocolate.

Will have to try the maple syrup drink next time 🙂

Finally found a Starbucks that is open 24 hours. For those of you who live in london (or maybe visiting) and would like to go to Starbucks late in the evening or in the early hours, then take a trip to St Pancras Station.

The Starbucks is located right at the back of the railway station (past the Eurostar desks and the escalators).

The Costa in this station is also open till about 2 or 3am. We were told that they close for a couple of hours after that to clean up and get ready for the day ahead.

Hopefully, other coffee shops will follow and they will open later than the usual 7pm!

Don’t know why Starbucks is charging more for the steamed soy milk.

A point that I’d like to make about Caffe Nero is that they don’t accept payment by cards.

Starbucks steamed Soy Milk is twice as expensive as Costas. In fact, a steamed Soy at Starbucks costs more than any other hot drink. Why is that?

  11. Dina says:

Forgot to say that if you just want a little treat to go with your drink, then Costa’s miniature biscuit selection is good!

I agree, once you’ve been to one starbucks, you’ve been to them all. Same goes for Nero, Costa and the rest 🙂
